Toby Daniel was born on November 1st, 2000. We never expected him to be born without his left hand, but we loved him intensely from the moment he was born. We immediately got the diagnosis of amniotic banding syndrome and got accepted to Shriner's Hospital. Toby has always been ahead or at level with his peers when it comes to physical and mental activity. If anything, not having his left hand has made him even more determined to "get the job done". He loves reading, playing soccer, drawing and wants to learn the piano. He is a master at his Game boy advance, and his little arm is nearly as limble as his hand! When he is approached by other children while we are out who are curious about his "little arm" he simply replies "That's just the way God made me." He sometimes gets discouraged when children are insensitive or too nosy, but he is quickly learning how to handle himself. As his mom I want to jump in and help him, but I know that it is something he will have to learn how to handle himself. I go most days without even remembering that he is missing his hand! He is normal and extraordinary in every way.
